Andi Hoppes has had a few months to settle in at IdeaStar as our new receptionist/marketing assistant. She joined the company about five months ago, fresh out of Miami University, where she earned a degree in marketing. We’ve found her to be very helpful for research, input on marketing projects, testing Web sites, writing articles, adding content to Web pages, and yes, answering the phones. (That’s where many IdeaStar marketing members, administrators, and project managers start out.)
We took a few moments to ask Andi some questions.
So far, what do you think of your first “real” job?
I am really enjoying it! There is so much to learn and Internet technology is such an exciting field to be in. It has been fun learning how everything works and being able to help with so many different aspects of the company - from helping project managers, to marketing, to researching, to just learning who all of the clients are! I am learning a lot.
How has it been transferring from a college schedule to a work schedule?
It has been an adjustment, but I’m getting used to it. Not being able to take naps during the day means not being able to stay up so late! Besides adjusting to those time changes, it has been nice to establish more of a routine.
What do you hope to accomplish while working at IdeaStar?
I hope to accomplish a lot while working here. I think that I can learn from everyone here about business in general and especially in the continually growing world of Internet technology and search engine marketing. The whole field of marketing that I studied is drastically changing. New ways to market and advertise products and services seem to be coming all the time.
Anything amusing about working at IdeaStar?
Something amusing seems to happen every day. It is great to get to know everyone and be able to joke around some. It makes the days more enjoyable.
What do you like about working at IdeaStar?
The people and the atmosphere. Everyone is so nice and willing to help teach me new things. I feel like there is so much to take in! It has also been fun being able to hang out with people outside of the office too. A bunch of us met at BW3 the Friday before Christmas and that was a good time. I was also able to attend one of Lia’s fiance’s concerts as well, which was really fun!
What outside interests do you have? What does your life include outside of IdeaStar?
I love watching movies, watching/playing sports, shopping, hanging out with my friends (who are scattered all over the country now!) Growing up with my dad and two brothers, I love football and am a big fan of the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame. I am also planning on joining a young professionals group in Cleveland to meet people and network.
Are you hopelessly hooked on “Lost” like some people at IdeaStar?
I had only seen a few episodes, until a few weeks ago when I started watching Season 1. I’ve now seen all of Season 1 and will be watching all of Season 2 very soon. (Thank you Susanne for lending it to me.)
Unfortunately the first 6 episodes from this season are only available online, so we will have to watch them on a computer. It is very addicting and I can not wait to get through the second season and prepare for the new episodes in February! Now I will understand the conversations that I hear throughout the office! ; )
